Putting you on a Life Long Path to Success

Early Career Coaching
You deserve a career that best suits all that is unique about you and puts you on a lifelong path to a fulfilling professional and personal life!

  • Are you unsure about what type of work you want to do and need guidance in choosing a career that uniquely suits your needs, values, strengths, and personality?
  • Are you overwhelmed at the thought of planning your professional future and need a practical action plan?
  • Are you considering graduate school and need help assessing whether it’s a prudent next step in your particular career?
  • Do you feel dissatisfied with your current work situation and can’t necessarily see a clear way out?
  • Do you feel like you’ve made choices in your early career, yet are now wondering why something doesn’t feel right?
  • Do you want to develop a sense of your “personal brand” and effective ways to communicate that to future employers?

I can be your partner in navigating your career path to help you find personal and professional fulfillment!

In Early Career Coaching, I work with young people, from upcoming college graduates to recent graduates in their twenties and thirties, to consciously and effectively plan their futures. I know that often college graduates choose paths (grad school, first jobs, industry) based on momentum and coincidence. There are many understandable reasons for this: You have some connection to get a first job; you’re not sure what you want to do so you choose grad school; your parents have certain expectations; your peers are making choices that seem reasonable, so why not do that?

I work with you to step back, take stock, and gain a much deeper self-awareness so you can make carefully thought-out choices. In choosing a career, you are also choosing a lifestyle, and we will ascertain if the path you are choosing “fits”. For example, the idea of working in finance may be appealing, but many of those jobs come with long hours and high stress. That appeals to some people, but others can’t handle the pace and anxiety. Where do you fit in? What choices are authentic for you?

Many college career centers offer excellent assistance with resumes and interview training, but the missing link is often how to choose a career that meets all your unique strengths, needs, interests and builds on your skills and past work or internship experiences. That is what we will work on together.

Once we hone in on your particular career target, I will help you put together a focused plan of action. Up to date knowledge about resumes, networking, branding, social media, interviewing techniques is critical. I will share my knowledge and resources with you to maximize your success at achieving your goals. An added benefit — the skills you develop in this process will serve you well in the future as you change positions or consider other career options.

Depending on whether you are just graduating or have already started your career, we will utilize some version of the following model, highly customized to your situation.

Discovery Process: Who are you?

Employing customized assessments and tools, you will reach an enhanced level of self-awareness and powerfully uncover your strengths, passions, values, goals and priorities. We will use a combination of Personal Assessments (personality, behavior, values, strengths), in-depth discussions, and though-provoking homework assignments. Our goal is to help identify what matters most to you and where you are best. The benefits?

  • You understand better what you are good at, what is important to you, and what you like to do to point you in the right direction.
  • I learn what is special about you so I can thoughtfully guide you.
  • You can better articulate your value to your network and future employer.

Vision: What do you want?

Based on your enhanced self-awareness, we will work on clarifying your career goals.

We will utilize some specific career assessments (such as MAPP, JVIS, Meyer’s Briggs) to help you consider alternatives.

I will guide you to gather information about careers and industries you are interested in, utilizing the effective research skills you learned in college. I may encourage and prep you to conduct some informational interviews to find out more about various alternatives. I will help you utilize a combination of college career offices, alumni databases, job listings, job fairs, and a multitude of career websites to further refine your career goals.

Once you come up with your specific vision, we will move on to the next all important step of designing a tailored action plan to help you achieve it.
